What to do in a power cut
If the lights go out and the fridge shudders to a halt at night, reach for the torch and candles you’ve carefully placed near at hand. Check the lights at the other end of the house to see if they are working. Check the microwave or oven clock.
If everything has stopped, the power supply to your house has been cut, possibly because of storm damage elsewhere, an unreliable power supply or a boy racer demolishing a power pole up the road. If all your neighbours’ houses are in darkness, sit back and relax, play with the candle wax or write a love letter by candlelight. The power will eventually come on again when the power supply company sorts it all out.
If you’re in a rural area or small town you might have to phone the power supply company to check whether or not they know about your problem.
